This leads to the production of acids and bacteria, which cause tooth decay.

This problem can be prevented with sealants.

Sealants are a thin layer of liquid resin that we apply to the chewing surfaces of the molars and premolars, and more rarely to the lingual surfaces of the anterior teeth. The material is then light-cured so that it hardens.

They are applied to permanent teeth that do not have decay. In extremely rare cases, they may be applied to teeth with very small carious lesions, although we usually recommend a regular filling in such cases.

At what age are they most effective?

Preventive fillings help prevent tooth decay in the permanent teeth of children and adolescents.
